Background:

Doctor Angelo was educated in Boston-Cambridge, Massachusetts, a preeminent educational center in the U.S., and graduated with distinction from each discipline.

Drawn to what he thought was the modernized profession of the historic medicine man, shaman, and American neighborhood druggist prior to the mid-late 20th century, Dr. Angelo earned his first professional degree as a pharmacist. But he discovered that the modern practice of pharmacy wasn’t as fulfilling as all the folklore was.

Thus, Dr. Angelo extended his pharmacy practice by studying the native plants of modern medicine and other natural forms of healing. This brought him on a trip to the Amazon Rain Forest. Dr. Angelo loved it there so much that he decided to go on more expeditions to expand his knowledge base. He took two years off to go on more fun and exciting adventures. He was deeply enriched by the many different cultures, healing practices, and wonders of the world, traveling 33 countries and 49 states. During this time, he was inspired to enhance his practice as a spiritual practitioner. He was ordained as a Minister to all people — of any faith and no faith. He also earned a certificate as a Reiki Master. As he practiced energy medicine, his beliefs about “what heals people" changed from dispensing medication to dispensing health and well-being. His focus shifted from providing medication to people who were sick to preventing people from getting sick in the first place.

So, Dr. Angelo decided to formally broaden his pharmacy practice by studying the field of behavioral medicine, aka health psychology or mind-body medicine. This discipline focuses on how biological, psychological, and social/cultural factors impact illness and wellness. He specialized in holistic theories, emphasizing both traditional models (Western) and alternative models (Eastern) of healing. Curious about why men had more completed suicides, accidents, high-risk behavior, homicides and other crime, relationship problems, health problems, and died younger than women, he further specialized in the psychology of men. His master's research topic was on how men's adherence to traditional aspects of masculinity produced stress, resulting in unfavorable psychological and physical affects. Subsequently, he earned a master’s degree in counseling psychology for professional clinical practice, becoming a psychotherapist.

Dr. Angelo started his private practice, including workshops. He became a syndicated Advice Columnist on the topic of men and masculinity; and subsequently became a published author by Kensington Books, New York, New York.

Interestingly, Dr. Angelo went full circle, earning his doctorate in Clinical Pharmacy. This is the branch of pharmacy where pharmacists provide direct patient care that optimizes the use of medication and promotes health, wellness, and disease prevention. He is Board Certification as a Psychiatric Pharmacist by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties, specializing in the pharmaceutical care of patients with mental health issues.

As a truly integrative (mind-body-spirit) clinician, Dr. Angelo has evolved a private practice for men's health and well-being, which has grown from Total Health (1999), to Ask Angelo (2004), to Empowering Men (2010), to Dr. Angelo (2014).
