Harness Your Power

This week I want to talk with you about Power. In order to relax and reboot, we often turn to something or someone outside ourselves. Depending on our interests, we might: pick up a pizza, drink a beer or two, watch a game, hit the gym, go for a run, play some golf, listen to music, go dancing, watch a movie, go for a drive, head to the beach, buy something new, treat ourselves to a massage, hot tub, steam room, bounce things off someone we trust, or go on a vacation to get away from it all. These are all wonderful. I enjoy some of these things myself. But real and lasting rejuvenation comes from inside – from the power within.

I invite you to test this out for yourself by trying an experiment. Take just 5-minutes to stop, turn within, and recharge your mind, body and soul. How? Jot down a word or two that describes how you’re doing. Perhaps frustrated? Mad? Sad? Worried? Tired? Then, rate how intense your stress level is on a scale of 1-10 (worst). Set a timer for 5 minutes. Now, close your eyes and just breathe. What have you got to lose? You have to breathe for the next 5 minutes anyway lol. The only difference is that you’re going to pay attention to your breathing. Focus on each breath, gently flowing in and out. With each deep breath, try visualizing a calming, refreshing color filling up and reawakening each and every part of your body…every muscle, every cell, every molecule! Feel the great surge of power, energy, and aliveness moving through you. Note the unending, revitalizing, inner stream of strength available to you at anytime. Try this until the timer goes off. Again, on a scale of 1-10 (worst), rate how intense your stress level is now. Jot down a word or two that describes how you’re doing now. Compare your before and after words and stress levels.
